Day and night skincare routines

Having a good daily skincare routine at either end of the day is important: your skin has different needs at each end of the day which can be addressed by tailoring morning and night-time skincare routines.

For day-time skincare, we first need to understand what happens to your skin during sleep. Cell renewal activity increases overnight and your skin will shed more cells from its surface. As it is warm and cosy under that duvet, your skin can lose moisture faster and you may sweat as well, so the first step is to cleanse away the shed skin cells and sweat. After this, the main goal is to rehydrate the skin and protect it from damaging UV light in the day ahead.

Over the course of the day, your skin (especially your face) is exposed to a wide variety of contaminants like make-up, dirt, airborne pollution and bacteria.

So, for a night skincare routine, the focus is to thoroughly cleanse away all those different contaminants from the daytime to leave you skin clean and ready for its busy night-time repair activity, and to minimise the moisture-loss overnight, to help your skin remain well hydrated.
